# GM’s latest performance car is quicker than any Holden Commodore

Cadillac’s Australian expansion has continued with the announcement of local pricing for the Lyriq-V, the first model from the luxury brand’s V-Series performance division to reach our shores.

Based on the Lyriq SUV, the Lyriq-V takes the formula which made the likes of the CT5-V Blackwing and CTS-V so popular, by adding a lot of power and torque to an already potent platform.

Priced from $99,000 before on-road costs, the Cadillac Lyriq-V is $9000 dearer than the Lyriq Sport, and $9600 dearer than the Tesla Model Y Performance, the latter of which is the most popular performance-oriented electric SUV on the market.

Underpinned by a dual-motor powertrain, the Lyriq-V produces up to 459kW and 880Nm, putting it close to the power output of the 475kW Chevrolet Corvette Z06, as well as the 474kW HSV GTSR W1, two of the most powerful General Motors models ever sold in Australia.

Thanks to that 880Nm torque figure, with its Velocity Max mode engaged Cadillac quotes a 0-100km/h time of 3.6 seconds – faster than the W1’s 4.2-second claim, but not enough to defeat the all-wheel drive Corvette E-Ray’s 2.9-second time.

Fed by a 92kWh NMC battery, Cadillac quotes a driving range figure of 471km, a significant amount less than the Model Y Performance’s 580km claim. It can be charged at up to 22kW AC, or 130kW DC.

Under the skin, the Lyriq-V receives Continuous Damping Control advanced adaptive dampers, lowered suspension, Brembo front brakes (with 390mm rotors), and a continuously variable electric power steering system. Its 22-inch wheels feature ‘self-sealing’ tyres.

To ensure drivers don’t feel too out of place in this quiet performance car, Cadillac says the Lyriq-V has a “distinctive multi-layered sound experience” which is piped into the cabin via its 23-speaker AKG Studio audio system, and also outside via dedicated underbody speakers.

“The sound experience is tuned to the vehicle’s driving modes and includes sound themes for acceleration and regenerative braking, as well as an e-rev experience when the vehicle is parked or in neutral,” Cadillac says.

“Inspired by the distinctive roar of Cadillac’s LMDh race car, the system gives drivers the choice of engaging performance sound or selecting Stealth Mode for a quieter cabin.”

Inside, the black Nappa leather upholstery is the only choice, and is featured on the power-adjustable, heated, ventilated and massaging front seats. There is also a heated and leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Additional equipment includes a 33-inch curved screen – which incorporates the digital instrument cluster, infotainment touchscreen and a control touchscreen – plus a panoramic sunroof.
