Ford Australia is taking steps to do away with its nickname of being the ‘Ranger Motor Company’, announcing its plans to cover 60 per cent of the local new-car market segments by 2030.

The announcement was made at the unveiling of three new products joining the Ford Australia lineup within the next 15 months – the electric Transit City van, the higher performance Mustang Dark Horse T8 Spec Pack, and the Bronco Basecamp.

At present, Ford’s product lineup covers approximately 30 per cent of the new-car market, led by the Ranger and Everest (the best-selling ute/vehicle overall and best-selling large SUV respectively), with the Mustang (Australia’s most popular sports car), F-150 pickup, Mach-E SUV, Transit, Transit Custom and Tourneo completing the local lineup.

By 2030, Ford wants to play in 60 per cent of the market, aided partly with the arrival of the Bronco Basecamp in the second half of 2027.

When 2030 arrives, Ford says 90 per cent of its sales volume will be from new or “significantly refreshed” vehicles, suggesting a number new new-generation and heavily updated models are on the way.

In addition to this, Ford is upping its after sales coverage by introducing a service-activated, seven-year warranty.

From September 1, all new Fords sold in Australia are covered by a standard five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, which is extended to up to seven years when customers bring their vehicle into a Ford dealership on time for scheduled services.

According to Ford Australia CEO and president Fadi Mawal, this rapid rate of change will allow Ford to once more reclaim a podium position in Australia’s new-car sales race, having dropped out of the top three in 2026 year-to-date, behind Toyota, BYD and Kia.

“We'll keep designing and engineering the right vehicles here made for Australian and Kiwi (New Zealand) drivers,” said Mawal.

These new vehicles, and many more that we can't share with you yet, broaden our portfolio and open up parts of the market we haven't spoken to for some time.

“In 2030, over 90 per cent of our volume sold will be either all new or significantly refreshed, and we will double our coverage of the market to over 60 per cent from about 30 per cent where we are today.

“While leveraging our global footprint, including China for the first time (Transit City and Bronco Basecamp), we are moving fast and staying affordable without asking customers to compromise on capability, lifestyle, or quality.

“More than 30 years ago, I joined Ford as an hourly employee driving a forklift. I've been on the factory floor and I've been in executive boardrooms and I can tell you, Ford is here to win.

“We will be here for the next 100 years, no matter what the challenges are in front of us. But we know we need to evolve to win.

“Our future direction is clear. Greater choice for our customers, deeper loyalty with the Ford brand and more foot traffic into our dealerships. Smarter, more affordable vehicles that leverage cutting edge, multi-energy technology. A much more diverse lineup to sell beyond the wildly successful Ranger and Everett.

“All of which helps us to compete aggressively with new and legacy automakers alike. Ford's best days are ahead of us, I am sure of that. The next chapter of Lord in Australia and New Zealand isn't coming sometime in the future. It starts here today.“

It’s not yet known what the additional models will be, however Ford’s global operations provide hints about what may be coming.

Ford of Europe's upcoming five-strong product lineup

In the US, [reports of a four-door Mustang sedan](https://torquecafe.com/ford-news-four-door-mustang-reports-mach-4-latest-budget-level-suv-pricing/) have increased in regularity in recent months, pointing towards an imminent reveal. Ford no longer competes in the passenger vehicle segment since killing off the Falcon (2016), Mondeo, Focus and Fiesta in Australia within the past decade.

It is also the main location for the [Ford Fathom electric pickup](https://torquecafe.com/2027-ford-fathom-ranger-sized-affordable-electric-ute-named/), which is sub-Ranger sized and will launch next year with a price starting below US$30,000\. It’s unclear whether this is on the table for Australia, given the local success of the Ranger.

[Over in Europe](https://torquecafe.com/ford-news-europe-bronco-fiesta-revival-2030/), a product offensive of five “rally-bred” models has been announced in recent months, at least two of which will be built in association with Chinese giant Geely in Spain. Of these five models, at least one is expected to be a completely different Bronco to what we currently know, as well as a small EV hatchback and SUV.
