# Ford Transit City added to brand’s van lineup as last-mile EV

The attention of Ford’s future product plans was largely focused on the [Bronco Basecamp this week](https://torquecafe.com/car-news-2026-ford-bronco-basecamp-australia-2027/), though it’ll be beaten as the Blue Oval brand’s first import from China by the Transit City, with the electric van due in showrooms later this year.

Arriving from November and priced from $50,000 drive-away, the Transit City is Ford’s first vehicle to be sold in Australia that’s manufactured by joint venture partner JMC in China.

Smaller than the Toyota HiAce-rivalling Transit Custom, the Transit City will be electric-only, powered by a 110kW front-mounted motor, rather than its slightly larger sibling which offers turbo-diesel, plug-in hybrid petrol and full electric powertrains.

Ford claims a combined driving range figure of 354km, or a city driving range of 380km, from its 56kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, something which it says factors in about 300kg of assumed payload, and will more than easily cater for the urban delivery and trade businesses likely to buy the Transit City.

Based on the data from more than 2000 Transit Custom owners, Ford discovered 90 per cent of them are travelling fewer than 76km a day, with the most extreme cases being 200km of driving, more than enough to be covered by the Transit City’s range. It can still be charged at up to 87kW on a DC fast charger.

With 6.4 cubic metres of storage, it can fit three European standard pallets, and be able to hold up to 1085kg, with access to the storage bay coming from barn-style rear doors and a passenger-side sliding door.

For context, the Transit Custom Trend SWB has a 5.7 cubic metre capacity, rising to 6.5 cubic metres for the LWB guise.

However, unlike its bigger siblings in the E-Transit Custom, Transit Custom PHEV and E-Transit, the Transit City won’t be able to tow, with its focus on short, last-mile deliveries, rather than distance hauling.

The arrival of the Transit City will come before Ford makes adjustments to the E-Transit Custom and Transit Custom PHEV, confirming both will undergo price cuts of $3900 in the second quarter of 2027, as well as be fitted with a 2.3kW Pro Power onboard system.

Currently the Transit Custom PHEV Trend LWB starts from $67,890 plus on-road costs, the Sport SWB from $70,290, and the E-Transit Custom from $77,890 in Trend LWB guise, and $80,290 for the Sport SWB.
