# BMW’s legendary 3.0 CSL to get another modern revival

It’s hard to go past the 1970s 3.0 CSL as one of BMW’s most iconic – if not influential – vehicles, and it looks like it’s set to get another modern rebirth.

Italian company Riverti Automobili appears to be preparing to bring the design of the CSL back to life, teasing what looks like a 21st century interpretation of the 50-plus-year-old classic, but with current BMW underpinnings.

Expected to be based on the BMW M2 – the ‘baby’ of the M car range – the images show its CSL-like body will include a shark-nose front end with a large lower fascia, a flat bonnet, boxy guards, and a rear wing which protrudes over the edge of the boot.

The mesh-style wheels also add to the retro flavour, though it seems the glasshouse of the M2 will remain largely unchanged.

Its lights too are a dead giveaway about what era this tribute is paying homage to, with the quad headlights and horizontal two-stack tail lights being a direct link to the CSL.

That’s all we’ve got to go off so far, with no reveal date announced.

It’s not yet clear if it’ll just bring cosmetic changes or additional mechanical upgrades to the M2.

If it’s unveiled within the next 12 months, it’ll become the second BMW 3.0 CSL homage to launch in the past five years, after the German brand itself released the modern [3.0 CSL in 2022](https://archive.torquecafe.com/bmw-reveals-ultimate-m-tribute/?ref=torquecafe.com).

Based on the M4, that homage featured a hand-built carbon-fibre body, unique M colour paintwork, more power and torque, and a run of just 50 examples, all of which were left-hand drive and reportedly cost €750,000 (A$1.21 million).
