This week, BMW teased the ‘G50’ 3 Series sedan, and though it’s wrapped in camouflage, its design isn’t expected to change much from the i3 sibling it’ll share showrooms with. What will change though is the chassis and underpinnings of the next 3 Series, which will continue to offer an engine under the bonnet, and drive to either the rear or all four wheels, depending on the variant. Thus far, BMW has only teased the upcoming M350 xDrive flagship, set to replace the current M340i xDrive as the range-topper before moving into the full-fat M3, though it’ll still offer some seriously impressive figures. ![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/a9/b3/a9b3e204-3117-4792-9a32-46184029df44/content/images/2026/09/2027-bmw-3-series-m350-xdrive-g50-3.jpg) 2027 BMW M350 xDrive prototype Under the bonnet will be a turbocharged 3.0-litre inline six engine (believed to be an update of the current B58), now featuring a 48-volt mild-hybrid system to assist with emissions and fuel economy. BMW has confirmed the M350 xDrive will produce 326kW and 580Nm, delivered to all four wheels via an eight-speed torque-converter automatic, representing a very healthy increase over the M340i xDrive’s 285kW and 500Nm figures. The power and torque outputs are also in the ballpark of the current M3, which makes 353kW and 550Nm in rear-drive manual guise, or 390kW and 650Nm in all-wheel drive automatic xDrive Competition trim. According to BMW, the next M350 xDrive will be able to accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 4.1 seconds (down from the M340i’s 4.3 second claim), while it can also get sideways, becoming the first non-M BMW to feature the brand’s ‘Drift Moment’ system. ![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/a9/b3/a9b3e204-3117-4792-9a32-46184029df44/content/images/2026/09/2027-bmw-3-series-m350-xdrive-g50-7.jpg) 2027 BMW M350 xDrive prototype Activating this mode results in all the power going to the rear wheels, allowing it to slide more easily, though it won’t roll out immediately, with the feature to be added “over the course of 2027, at which point it will also be activated – via Remote Software Upgrade – in cars already delivered to customers.” Other tech specs are being withheld for now, though [*Bimmerpost*](https://f90.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=901686&ref=torquecafe.com) forum user ynguldyn – who compiles insider information about upcoming BMW products – has posted prospective details of the lineup, including the M350 xDrive. In this way, we are elevating the driving experience in the new BMW 3 Series to a new level – precise, assured and unmistakably BMW.” The new BMW 3 Series is expected to be revealed in the coming months before entering production by year’s end.
