Aston Martin has taken the roof off its Valhalla, with the new Spider billed as the fastest open-cockpit production car the British brand has ever built.

Launching as Aston Martin’s first mid-engined convertible production supercar, the Valhalla Spider follows in the footsteps of its fixed-roof [Valhalla coupe sibling](https://torquecafe.com/f1-star-debuts-supercar-around-monaco/), offering plug-in hybrid power but now with infinite headroom.

Developed with input from the consulting arm of Aston Martin’s Formula 1 team, Aston Martin Performance Technologies (AMPT), the engineering firm helped tweak the Valhalla’s Spider’s dynamics, aerodynamics and materials to not lose any of the edge compared to the coupe.

Retaining the Valhalla’s performance required revised active aerodynamics and stability control calibrations, tuned to adapt to airflow with the fabric roof in place or retracted.

Fitted with a clip-in wind deflector when the roof is removed, the Valhalla Spider’s new part manages airflow over the cockpit while still feeding cooling air to the engine, which is done through a reprofiled air snorkel sitting 35mm taller than the coupe’s.

When the roof is placed in position, the deflector folds into three parts and stows in new 15-litre sill storage apertures.

Downforce still exceeds 600kg with the roof fitted, though the top speed of the Valhalla changes depending on what roof material is being used.

The standard, stowable black fabric roof limits the Valhalla Spider’s top speed to 200km/h, while a carbon-fibre hard top can be fitted to bring its maximum speed up to 350km/h.

A handful of other changes have been made to the Valhalla Spider, such as a new carbon-fibre Touring Seat (though the standard coupe seat can be fitted at no cost), while the dihedral doors are now frameless with a revised glass curvature, aimed at being easier to navigate with the roof fitted.

The Valhalla Spider continues to be powered by the coupe’s twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 engine and three electric motors, produces 793kW and 1100Nm, with the former number leading to a specific output of 152kW per litre – the highest of any Aston Martin road car.

The engine is mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission which features an integrated electric motor, with the remaining two drive units powering the front axle.

Aston Martin hasn’t announced pricing yet, while fuel economy and emissions figures are still awaiting homologation.

The Aston Martin Valhalla Spider will make its global debut this weekend at the 2026 Concours at Wynn Las Vegas, with deliveries starting in the third quarter of 2027.
