# Honda’s strangest NSX is for sale

Honda and its North American luxury brand have sold two generations of the famed NSX nameplate, and it turns out it was more than a name connecting the two vehicles.

Listed for sale on US site [*Cars and Bids*](https://carsandbids.com/auctions/rxeBjLB9/acura-nsx-roadster-concept-from-the-avengers?ref=torquecafe.com) is a concept of the second-generation Acura NSX, built by the brand for the 2012 film ‘The Avengers’, used in it by billionaire and Iron Man, Tony Stark (played by Robert Downey Jr.).

Like a number of concept cars in films before it, the NSX previewed what later became the second-gen road car, however given the movie came out four years before it was released, Acura had to look towards its past to make a rolling concept.

Based on the first-generation Honda NSX, the NSX Roadster Concept was Acura's Advanced Design Studio in Los Angeles and built by Trans FX in Oxnard, allowing the show car to be used on screen.

The car underneath is specifically a 1991 Acura NSX, which was powered by a 3.0-litre V6 engine and a five-speed manual transmission, rather than the hybrid 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 which featured in the true second-gen sports car.

Its targa-top body was replaced by that of a roadster, with the hand-built resin and fibreglass construction finished in a unique paint to match Iron Man’s armour – a connection which is strengthened by its ‘STARK 33’ licence plate at the rear.

Inside it is very clearly a first-gen NSX, with the early 1990s cabin contrasting against the modern-looking exterior, as its only alterations were a pair of bucket seats.

Due to being a manufacturer prototype, the NSX Roadster concept can’t be registered or titled for public road use in the US, but despite this and its underpinnings, bidding is already up to almost US$100,000 (A$142,300) with five days left in the auction.

However, it does come with a Certificate of Authenticity and a signed photo of Acura’s then-Creative Director, Dave Marek, with the car.
