# HSV VL Walkinshaw with just 20km for sale

There aren’t many days you’ll find an Australian performance car classic for sale in as-new condition, but for lovers of the HSV VL SS Group A Walkinshaw, that time is now.

Listed online by Adelaide-based unique car specialist [Richmonds](https://richmonds.com.au/portfolio/1988-holden-special-vehicles-commodore-vl-ss-group-a-walkinshaw-sedan-manual/?ref=torquecafe.com), this VL ‘Walky’ could claim to be the lowest mileage example offered for sale since production began in 1988, with its odometer showing just 20km since new.

Chassis #082 of 749 examples built was completed on July 11th, 1988, and was allocated to Canowindra Motors where it remained until March 1991, when it was sold to its first owner for $36,000 in cash – equivalent to $86,600 today, but still about $10,000 less than its price when new.

Unlike almost every VL Walkinshaw, this example was never fitted with its iconic ‘plastic pig’ bodykit, consisting of a lower front splitter, side skirts and rear bumper lip, all of which were intended to be fitted by the dealer.

In car #082’s case, this never happened, with the parts still wrapped up, as are almost all the interior components, with the listing claiming every part bar the battery is original, while even the replacement battery is accompanied by the original unit.

According to the listing, “during the early years of ownership, the car was occasionally started and idled to temperature,” which later led to the engine being turned over by hand. It was said to have recently been given fresh fuel as a part of its recommissioning process.

Remaining in the same family since new, the sale includes the HSV’s factory release form, dealership inspection report, original dealership registration certificate, NSW registration plates, and sales contract.

As with all other examples, it’s painted in Panorama Silver with five-spoke 16-inch wheels, and powered by a fuel-injected 5.0-litre Holden V8 engine, which sent 180kW and 380Nm to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission.

Richmonds is taking expressions of interest for HSV VL Walkinshaw chassis #082, asking interested parties to submit offers by 12pm on September 30, 2026.

There’s no indication of how much it could sell for, as the market for VL Walkinshaws has been scattered in recent years.

The known auction record stands at $380,000 for #333 in 2018, while car #339 was listed for more than $1 million in 2021, though a sale price was not announced.

In June, car #285 sold for $209,000 plus auction fees, with more than 45,000km on the clock, meanwhile car #304 is listed via [Seven 82 Motors](https://www.seven82motors.com.au/lot/aug-9-2026/1988-hsv-vl-ss-group-a-walkinshaw-304-15700km-books/?ref=torquecafe.com) for $330,000 with 15,685km.

Currently, the most expensive Holden sold on record was a HSV GTSR W1 Maloo in XU3 Yellah, which went for $1.2 million late last year.
