# Rocket-powered supercar to remain a Dreame after Chinese brand backs away from cars

There was more than a pinch of skepticism when Dreame – a Chinese company best known for its range of vacuum cleaners – [announced in 2025](https://torquecafe.com/will-it-suck-chinese-vacuum-maker-wants-to-build-a-hypercar/) it planned to build a supercar-style EV, having never made a vehicle before.

While the likes of Xiaomi – a smartphone giant – have successfully been able to embrace China’s growing demand for cars, Dreame’s plans were then made even grander, when it said [this year](https://torquecafe.com/chinese-vacuum-giant-wants-to-make-a-rocket-powered-ev/) it would launch a version of the supercar with a “custom-built dual solid-fuel rocket booster system”.

All of this pointed to a company making more bold promises than Elon Musk, and without any history to show for it, and now it appears it will all simply remain a dream.

As reported by [*CarNewsChina*](https://carnewschina.com/2026/08/25/dreame-abandons-car-business-the-0-9s-0-100-km-h-and-450-wh-kg-solid-battery-model-turns-out-to-be-a-dream/?ref=torquecafe.com), Dreame’s ‘Starry Sky’ project – which focused on its automotive endeavours – has been liquidated, with its cancellation reportedly having started to be wound up in May, when its workforce was slowly reduced from almost 1000 staff.

Most recently there were reportedly only a few dozen employees working for Dreame’s automotive division, who *CarNewsChina* says will handle the winding down of the project.

The company had originally made the claim that Australia would be the first right-hand drive market Dreame would export to, though its vehicles never even reached production beyond motor show concepts in China.

Dreame will continue to focus on its core products, such as its vacuum cleaners, robotic lawnmowers, plus robots and two-wheeled EVs.

Perhaps we should have seen this coming, as a majority of the hype around Dreame’s rocket-powered Nebula NEXT 01 Jet Edition came from what appeared to be an AI-generated or at least assisted video posted by Dreame online.
