A concours-condition HSV GTSR W1 super sedan with just 32km on the odometer has sold for $350,888 at an Australian auction.
Still wearing its pre-delivery protective plastic packaging, there were 73 bids for the Light My Fire orange W1 – the ultimate Australian performance sedan – with the final price more than double the original MSRP.
Purchased by an anonymous bidder, the vehicle is build number 18 of 275 and was manufactured in HSV’s Clayton, Victoria, facility on November 9, 2017, with two owners since.

The HSV GTSR W1 sold for $169,990 brand new (before on-road costs) in 2017. The pinnacle of Commodore performance for HSV, the GTSR W1 is powered by a hand-built 6.2-litre supercharged ‘LS9’ V8 producing 474kW and 815Nm.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed, close-ratio Tremec TR-6060 manual gearbox; while its 20.0-inch wheels are shod in hardcore Pirelli P-Zero Trofeo R tyres. Suspension is provided by SupaShock while the front brakes measure a whopping 410mm in diameter.

The winning bid could reflect a softening of the classic market in Australia which reached dizzying heights during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021 a rare HSV GTSR W1 Maloo Ute sold for $1,050,000 at a Lloyd’s auction, the highest selling price of any Australian vehicle in history.
The sale could be sobering news for other GTSR W1 sellers, with several vehicles with delivery kilometres advertised on classifieds websites for as high as $525,000, with none under $359,000.
In 2017 a red GTSR W1 sold for $250,000 at auction.
