Ford has finally announced when we’ll get our first look at the all-new 2023 Mustang, showing it off on September 14.
Set to coincide with the revived Detroit Motor Show, the Mustang reveal date ends years of speculation about when we’d get our first official look at the new model.
Ford CEO, Jim Farley, tweeted: “Excited to confirm that we’ll unveil the all-new, seventh-generation Ford Mustang September 14 at the Detroit Auto Show. It’s a stunning car and I’m excited to share it with the world!”

The September reveal means it will likely go on sale in the US by early 2023, but Australian audiences will have to wait a bit longer for right-hand drive production. At least for road going ones, with the planned Gen3 Ford entry already confirmed to swap its body from the current prototype to the new look in time for the start of the 2023 Supercars Championship.
What we do know about the new Mustang is that it’s likely to have switched to a new platform, shared in basic form with the Ford Explorer SUV. This has allowed Ford to maintain its longitudinal engine and rear-wheel drive layout without investing in an expensive bespoke sports car platform.
Under the bonnet the engine choices are expected to remain similar to the out-going model, with the 5.0-litre ‘Coyote’ V8 and the 2.3-litre EcoBoost four-cylinder turbocharged petrol carried over with some upgrades. There’s also an expectation that Ford will introduce a hybrid option too, although this is yet to be confirmed.
Farley ended his tweet with the hashtag #savethemanuals which effectively confirms the six-speed manual transmission will remain available to enthusiasts, alongside the 10-speed automatic transmission.
