Genesis memperkenalkan grand tourer listrik untuk melawan BMW & Maserati

Genesis has made a bold statement about its future, revealing the striking X Speedium Coupe concept at the 2022 New York Motor Show. This latest concept car is an all-electric fastback coupe that not only hints at a new hero model for Genesis, but previews the brand’s next-generation of design.

Genesis has already committed to going all-electric across its range by the end of the decade and has been teasing a sports car or grand tourer for several years. This latest concept is an evolution of the Genesis X that was unveiled in 2021, with some key changes that could be carried over to a production model.

The obvious changes are the new roofline, which gives the car a more fastback-like silhouette compared to the more traditional shape of last year’s concept.

The other new design element is the lack of a traditional grille, with the X Speedium Coupe instead defined by two strips of lights that wrap around the front of the car.

“This car is an open-door moment in Genesis’ journey towards our future EV design,” explained Luc Donckerwolke, Chief Creative Officer of Genesis. “This isn’t a show car – it’s a look into our design processes as we explore ideas for the next wave of EVs, one that incorporates Genesis’ DNA.”

Genesis didn’t reveal any technical details of the new concept, but its name makes it clear it’s positioned as a performance model. Speedium is used for racetrack names in South Korean, so the addition of it and ‘coupe’ are both designed to hint at its performance future.

The most likely production path for the X Speedium Coupe would be to use the Hyundai-Kia Group’s ‘E-GMP’ platform. These modular underpinnings are already used under the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6 and Genesis GV60.

The EV6 GT has showed off the potential of the dual-motor platform, making 430kW of power and 740Nm of torque, which Genesis could likely build on to create a hero model capable of taking on the likes of the BMW M8, Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door and Maserati GranTurismo.
