Victorian Police are on the hunt for Godzilla.
Not the Japanese movie monster but the original 1991 Nissan Skyline GT-R owned by Nissan Australia, which was stolen in the early hours of this morning (Thursday) from the company’s Melbourne headquarters.
“Unfortunately our original R32 GT-R has been stolen and is now subject to a police investigation,” a Nissan spokeswoman told News.com.au.
The car, which earned the nickname ‘Godzilla’ thanks to its dominance in the Australian Touring Car Championship in the hands of Jim Richards and Mark Skaife, is one of the most highly sought-after performance cars of that era. Examples of the ‘R32’ generation GT-R regularly trade for more than six-figures and one in good condition can fetch more than $250,000.
There are no details on how the car was stolen or the status of the investigation, but this particular example of the Nissan coupe is well known. Nissan has used the maroon car, which features the registration ‘GTR 091, for several promotional events.
