The Honda NSX is going out with a bang.
Honda’s US performance division, Acura, has unveiled the NSX Type S over the weekend at Pebble Beach, revealing a more powerful and better-handling version of the Japanese supercar. More importantly, the new model will help re-establish the ‘Type S’ branding for future electfired models for Honda and Acura.

“NSX is an incredible success story for Acura, leading the reestablishment of Acura as a performance brand and setting the stage for the return of Type S,” explained Jon Ikeda, vice president and Acura brand officer. “We’re a company of enthusiasts, and we’re already investigating what the next generation of sports cars should be in the coming electrified era.”
The NSX Type S packs a 447kW punch from its 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 hybrid powertrain with triple electric motors, up from 427kW from the standard NSX. It also gets aerodynamic and styling changes to make it stand-out, including a rear diffuser inspired by the GT3 racer.
Honda has confirmed it will build 350 Type S as the final production run of the second-generation NSX. It will be built at Acura’s Ohio plant and only 50 will be exported, in keeping with the brand’s focus on the American market.
Honda Australia offered the NSX locally, but with a price tag of $420,000 the brand struggled for sales – even by supercar standards – with only nine finding homes between 2016 and 2019.
