Living up to the expectations of previous models can be challenging for some new cars, but the pressure on the Lamborghini Temerario is particularly heightened.
That’s because it replaces the Huracán, which spent a decade as the rampaging bull brand’s ‘entry-level’ model and in doing so became its best-selling model ever.
Stephan Winkelmann, chairman and CEO of Lamborghini is not dialing the expectations back either.
“Every new Lamborghini must surpass its forerunners in performance terms,” he said at the reveal of the Temerario at the Monterey Car Week in California over the weekend.

“With the Temerario, we’ve exceeded our expectations with what the mid-engine sports car can be in terms of performance and design,” Winkelmann said. “The Temerario completes the next chapter in our Direzione Cor Tauri plan by hybridizing the full product line, while we continue the development of our full electric model debuting at the end of the decade.”

To achieve this, as Winkelmann indicated, Lamborghini has created an all-new hybrid powertrain, which combines a new twin-turbo V8 engine with three electric motors for a total system output of 686kW. While it may be a hybrid, Lamborghini wants it to sound like a Lamborghini, so the engine will rev all the way to 10,000rpm.

The Temerario joins the Revuelto and Urus SE as the brand’s hybrid future, as it’s forced to cut emissions to survive, while avoiding a switch to full electrification.
