Ryan Tuerck had a dream. The American drift star wanted to install a Formula 1-inspired Judd V10 engine into his next car, a Toyota GR Supra.
After 18-months of work, he unveiled his anything-but-stock project at last week’s SEMA Show. Dubbed ‘Formula Supra’ the stunning carbon machine is powered by a Judd GV4, the British engineering firm’s 4.0-litre V10 that it developed for Le Mans Prototype racing (using the V10 knowledge it gained in F1).
The GV4 is capable of making 544kW and revving to an ear-piercing 11,000rpm, the combination of GR Supra and Judd make for a unique machine. This is the same type of engine that won the 2002 Daytona 24-hours in the back of the Doran Racing Dallara LMP1.
There’s also a little bit of Australia in this special build, with the engine paired with a locally-made Holinger sequential gearbox – similar to what was used in the previous-generation V8 Supercars.
Tuerck built Formula Supra in partnership with Race Services, the Los Angeles-based media agency that also works with Daniel Ricciardo and Formula 1 on various marketing projects.
He’s also no stranger to unusual car builds, with his previous famous project being the Toyota 4586 – an 86 coupe that swapped its 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine for a 4.5-litre V8 from a Ferrari 458 Italia.
