Nico Rosberg has returned to Mercedes-AMG headquarters, nearly eight years after he retired from the brand’s Formula 1 team. The reason? To collect his limited edition AMG One hypercar, which is based on his 2016 championship winning F1 machine.
It was a long wait, with Mercedes-AMG taking more than five years to develop the car in partnership with the F1 engine division in Brixworth, UK, with several challenges to convert an F1 engine for road-legal use. The heart of the AMG One is the 1.6-litre turbocharged V6 based on the same power unit that powered Rosberg to his 2016 world title.

Rosberg ordered his AMG One in 2018 but had to wait until last week to finally take delivery and get behind the wheel. In a cheeky move (and a sign of the leeway Mercedes gave its former F1 star) Rosberg’s AMG One is finished in Grigio Ferro, a silver colour that’s actually from Ferrari. Rosberg’s AMG One also features a black Mercedes three-pointed star on the bonnet, which is unique across the 275 examples the German firm will build.
But the car was worth waiting for, with the F1-derived powertrain making 792kW (1063hp) to provide epic performance levels. Mercedes-AMG has ‘restricted’ it to a top speed of 352km/h, it runs 0-100m/h in just 2.9 seconds, 0-200km/h takes only 7.0 seconds and it takes just 15.6 seconds to go from 0-300km/h.

Despite all that performance, the AMG One has a claimed fuel consumption of just 8.7-litres per 100km on the combined cycle. It can also drive for electric power alone for 18km.
As you’d expect, the AMG One isn’t Rosberg’s only supercar, he also owns an all-electric Rimac Nevera and vlogged about that process too.
