Half of Australians don’t wash their car on a regular basis, only giving it a clean when they believe it has become too dirty.
That was the finding of Speedcafe.com’s 2021 Motorsport Survey, presented by Kincrome, with nearly 13,000 respondents revealing their car washing habits.
According to the data acquired by Speedcafe.com, half of those who answered the question ‘How much time do you spend maintaining the appearance of your car?’ answer ‘Only when I think my car needs it’
The rest of the respondents were split almost evenly between spending ‘1 hour every 2-3 weeks’ (25%) and ‘1-2 hours a week (24%).
This is despite evidence that regular washing can have a positive impact on deterring rust on your car and maintaining the paint quality for longer.
While Australians don’t have to worry about things like road salt that is problematic in northern hemisphere countries that experience heavy snow falls, things like bird droppings, tree sap and even sunscreen are more common and can cause damage to paint if not washed off quickly.
In terms of products used, it seems being involved in motorsport helps attract more brand loyalty – at least amongst survey participants.
Meguiar’s and Armor All – two brands with a long history of supporting racing – were split by just a handful of votes, with Meguiar’s preferred by 36.6%.
