Imagine walking down the street in New York City only to see a Holden VL Commodore Turbo pull up at a set of lights beside you.
That’s exactly what happened to unsuspecting punters earlier this year when YouTube channel Keep It Reet, run by Aussie Jason Ferron, cruised through the city that never sleeps in a highly modified, RB30ET-powered VL Holden Commodore.
Earlier this year, Ferron shipped the car from Australia to the USA where he now lives. The car has also been to Canada, taking part in the LZ World Tour.
In a video posted to Keep It Reet’s YouTube channel, New York locals wound down windows and pulled up beside the car to enquire what it was, surprised to see the driver sitting on the right-hand-side.
The VL, which was launched in Australia in 1986, even kept its Victorian number-plates – although it was pulled over NYPD, who demanded the owner fit its American number-plates.
Still sporting its Nissan-sourced 3.0-litre straight-six, this VL Turbo has had more than a few extra herbs and spices – and is now pushing around 850 horsepower (634kW) at the rear wheels. It has forged internals, a Garrett G42 turbocharger running a maximum of 36psi and 8500rpm. Ferron said he generally runs the car at 30psi and with lower revs for longevity. The car runs a Turbo 400 three-speed automatic gearbox.
Enough of our waffle, though, watch the full video of the VL Commodore Turbo in New York City here:
