Is this the next McLaren limited-edition hypercar?

This is reportedly the upcoming McLaren Sabre supercar

It may look like a colouring in job for your kids, but what you’re looking at here could be the best look yet at McLaren’s next limited run supercar.

These are reportedly patent drawings discovered online weeks after spy images of a prototype were snapped in the USA. Reportedly based on the brand’s Ultimate Vision GT concept designed for the Gran Turismo game, this is the real-life version and it’s set to be called Sabre.

Based on these images it appears to be based on the Senna but McLaren Special Operations (MSO) has given it a complete visual overhaul. There’s an obvious motorsport theme to the Sabre, with its aggressive bodywork including a Le Mans Prototype-style fin that connects to the huge rear wing.

There is obvious racing inspiration behind the McLaren Sabre’s design

Underneath the extreme body, the Sabre is expected to be powered by the brand’s trademark 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 but with an electric motor on the front axle for an all-wheel drive power boost.
McLaren has made no secret of its plans to move down a hybrid powertrain path. It recently revealed official images of its all-new model, currently dubbed ‘High-Performance Hybrid’ under-going testing in the UK with its new V6 engine and electric motors. So far the company has only built two hybrids, the rare P1 and new Speedtail.

Just how many McLaren will build remains unclear, with initial reports suggesting it was a specific commission for an individual client. However, more recent reports have indicated the British brand would build up to 15 examples of the Sabre in total.
