The Nürburgring Nordschleife is not the place you’d expect to find a Land Rover Defender, but the latest version of the iconic SUV is something special.
The Defender OCTA is due to be unveiled on July 3, but the British brand has revealed some initial details and teaser images of this extreme machine.
ROAD TEST: Land Rover Defender 110 – an icon re-born
The OCTA will be the new hero model of the line-up, boasting the same 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 mild-hybrid powertrain as the Range Rover Sport SV. While final specifications haven’t been revealed, that means the Defender OCTA could be packing as much as 467kW of power and 750Nm of torque.
ROAD TEST: 2024 Range Rover Sport SV – the Super SUV
Land Rover is positioning the OCTA as the most capable iteration of the Defender yet, and that has meant almost 14,000 more tests in addition to the typical Defender testing program. That has included “high-performance handling” running at Germany’s famous Nürburgring Nordschleife, as well as rock crawling in the USA, ice driving in Sweden and “rally raid stages” in France.
OFF-ROAD TEST: Land Rover Defender
Like the Range Rover Sport SV, production numbers will be strictly limited globally, but Land Rover Australia has secured 100 examples of the Defender OCTA. But buyers will need to get in quick and be prepared to put down a deposit for what’s likely to be the most expensive Defender yet too.
