The WAU Ranger was revealed ahead of the race team’s Ford Mustang Supercars

Holden fans brace yourselves, because Walkinshaw Performance – the company that has its roots in Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) has revealed its first Ford project.

The WAU Ranger is a highly modified version of the best-selling ute, adding more off-road performance to make it more capable and look tougher even when standing still. Revealed in images taken in front of the Walkinshaw Andretti United’s Supercars Mustang workshop, the new project seals the Walkinshaw family’s transition from the red side of the fence to the blue side.

The Walkinshaw Automotive empire still has ties to General Motors though, converting the Chevrolet Silverados to right-hand drive, while Walkinshaw Performance offers aftermarket performance upgrades for those models too. Walkinshaw has also worked with Volkswagen Australia to modify the Amarok ute to create the Amarok W580 in the past.

While Ford has a successful in-house business with its own Ranger Raptor, the mainstream success of the locally designed ute means there is a huge demand for aftermarket enhancements, and Walkinshaw Performance is aiming to meet that need.

The WAU Ranger is a tightly limited initial run though, with just 25 examples to be built, with interested buyers needing to pre-register their interest online now.

The upgrades to the Ranger include a new tyre and wheel package, pairing a FXH 17×8.5-inch machined face wheel with a 285/70 R17 tyre. There’s also a two-inch lift with special WAU-tuned Bilstein dampers, new front coil springs and spring rate, new upper control arms, flared fenders, Baja-style integrated roof lights, a WAU decal kit and individually numbered build plates.

Buyers will also get a pair of tickets to their local Supercars event, plus a garage tour and two signed hats.

No price has been listed for the WAU Ranger.
