What you need to know: 2025 Nissan Patrol

New look, new technology and a new engine for Toyota LandCruiser rival.

2025 Nissan Patrol

The Nissan Patrol has been given a modern, hi-tech makeover, but remains the Japanese brand’s most rugged and capable off-roader.

Revealed overnight in a glitzy launch in Abu Dhabi, the new Patrol has had a radical transformation, both on the surface and underneath. In addition to the bold new styling and upgraded cabin, this new model ditches the V8 engine of the out-going model. Instead it’s now powered by a new 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine, making 317kW of power and 700Nm of torque and paired to a new nine-speed automatic transmission. There’s also a second engine option, a naturally aspirated 3.8-litre V6 that makes 235kW and 386Nm.

Nissan’s global president and CEO, Makoto Uchida, revealed the new Patrol and hailed it as a “bold leap forward” for the brand.

“The all-new Patrol is a prime example of the exciting and empowering models we are delivering under our global business plan, The Arc,” Uchida said. “The seventh generation is a bold leap forward, blending unparalleled performance, cutting-edge technology and a commanding presence to redefine what an SUV can be. With its history of more than 70 years, the Patrol perfectly embodies our corporate purpose of ‘Driving innovation to enrich people’s lives.”

Other key new features include customizable adaptive air suspension that is designed to ensure it retains off-road capability and remains the closest challenger to Toyota’s LandCruiser 300 Series. It’s also bigger than the out-going model, both longer and wider, measuring 5205mm long, 2030mm wide and 1955mm tall, with a 3075mm wheelbase.

But there’s also been a noticeable acknowledgment of the modern consumer demand for more technology and a more premium cabin experience. The new Patrol will be available with a range of such systems including NissanConnect 2.0 with Google built-in, ProPilot (the company’s semi-autonomous functionality) and Klipsch Premium Audio System.

While it all sounds like a major step forward for what is a model long-overdue for replacement, there is some bad news for Australians. The new Patrol will go on sale internationally in 2025 but local buyers will need to wait until late 2026 before it goes on-sale in Australia. Except more details on specifications and pricing closer to then.
