Meet the new car with a $25,000 discount

The 2023 Peugeot E-2008 is now one of the cheapest electric cars

Peugeot Australia has cut the price of its E-2008 electric SUV by $25,000, inadvertently creating one of the nation’s cheapest new electric vehicles.

The electric E-2008 (model year 2023) is available for $39,990 drive-away – a vehicle that normally retails for $59,990, representing an approximate discount of $25,000 when factoring in on-road costs. Peugeot said it is clearing stock ahead of an updated model arriving this year.

The clearance deal means the electric, richly-equipped E-2008 GT SUV is cheaper in its model-year 2023 guise than the base model petrol, model-year 2024 2008 Allure SUV.

The E-2008 uses a 50kWh battery with a maximum 328km of claimed WLTP range. A single 100kW electric motor drives the front wheels. The facelifted model is expected to have around 400km range.

The vehicle must be purchased and delivered before June 30.

With three French brands sold in Australia, Peugeot continues to bet heavily on hatchbacks, sedans and wagons with electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains. The brand offers three SUVs, the small 2008, mid-size 3008 and larger 5008. It also sells vans in various sizes.

Peugeot is very active with motor racing but is fighting for Australian sales

Last year Peugeot sold 2516 vehicles in Australia, an increase on 2087 in 2022. In the first three months of 2024, Peugeot sold 494 vehicles, up by 16 percent compared to the same time last year.

The Stellantis-owned brand continues to leverage its presence in the FIA World Endurance Championship where it campaigns the 9X8 Hypercar, powered by a 2.6-litre hybrid twin-turbo V6.

Closer to home, four Peugeot 308s are currently campaigning in the 2024 Touring Car Racing (TCR) Australia Series, driven by Ben Bargwanna, Ryan Casha, Jordan Cox and Aaron Cameron.

Long-time Supercars stalwart Garry Rogers Motorsport builds the current generation 308 TCR racecar at its premises in Victoria, as the official Peugeot-appointed manufacturer.

A Peugeot 2008 won the Dakar Rally in 2016 in the hands of Stéphane Peterhansel, before Peugeot pulled the pin after the 2018 event.
