Jaguar has looked to its past to preview its future. The result, the Jaguar Vision Gran Turismo Coupe, is nothing short of stunning.
Jaguar gave its designers free reign to shape the car however they liked, and the team drew inspiration from some of the leaping cat brand’s most iconic cars – the C-Type and D-Type Le Mans racers of the 1950s.
“This project has been completely led by our young designers and represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for them to create a vehicle steeped in our incredible heritage but pushing the boundaries of future design,” explained Julian Thomson, Jaguar’s Design Director.
“The team have done an incredible job in creating something which is clearly identifiable as a Jaguar, inspired – but not constrained – by our iconic past.”
The Vision Gran Turismo Coupe’s swooping lines and the brand’s trademark cab-rearward design, while also featuring a range of modern additions such as an active aero wing to generate downforce in the game.
Virtual drivers will have 750kW and 1200Nm of performance at their disposal on the game, with Jaguar saying the digital car has a 0-100km/h time of less than 2-seconds.
Of course, while you’ll never be able to drive this beautiful machine in the real world, it’s highly likely Jaguar will introduce an electric sports car in the not-too-distant future. The company is moving down a path of electrification, which began with the I-Pace that arrived earlier in 2019, and with more battery-powered models planned.
It’s likely the next generation XJ sports sedan will swap its current V8 petrol engines for an all-electric powertrain and all signs point to the replacement for the F-Type sports car at least offering an EV alternative to petrol engines.
