We’ve reported on the trio of ‘Yellah’ yellow HSV GTSR up for grabs at this week’s Lloyds Auction – but there’s a yellow Ford that could spoil the Holden party.
An award-winning 1971 Ford Falcon GTHO Phase III has attracted bids of more than $750,000 at the time of publication, with Lloyds’ experts tipping it could ultimately sell for as much as $1.5 million.

While Falcon GTHO Phase III typically attract big dollars, there’s good reason why this particular example could beat the $1.15m record for the model set earlier this year. This is one of only 12 finished in ‘Yellow Glo’ and comes with a contrasting beige vinyl roof.
It’s almost in immaculate condition, winning the ‘Classic Grand Tourer’ trophy at the 2003 GT Nationals. More recently it was runner-up at the ‘Best Restored Phase III’ category at the 2019 GT Nationals in Adelaide.

“This particular GTHO Phase III Falcon is not only award-winning, but it is super rare coming in the special order colour, one of only 12 in Yellow Glo,” said Lee Hames, chief operations officer for Lloyds Auctions.
“We expect this car to break Australian Classic Car records indefinitely, its current bid is in the high six figures, and we expect it to reach anywhere between 1 and 1.5 million dollars come auction day.”
Even amid all the record-setting prices for Australian-made cars, including the HSV GTSR Maloo W1 that Lloyds auctioned for $1.05m earlier this year, the legendary Falcon still stands out, according to Hames.

“The Ford Falcon GTHO Phase III receives so much attention because it is the pinnacle of Australian muscle cars and has consistently held its value over its lifespan since its release in 1971, so they attract bidders including enthusiasts, collectors as well as investors,” Hames explained.
The auction closes this Friday and given the significance of the sale bidders are required to be pre-approved. See Lloyds Auction site for more details.
