Mika Häkkinen and McLaren reunited at last weekend’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, with the two-time world champion running up the famous driveway in the British brand’s latest hypercar – the Solus GT.
The Solus GT is McLaren’s strictly limited track-only creation, with just 25 examples of the single-seat, V10-powered machine being built. And the one Häkkinen drove was particularly special, as the owner is a huge fan of the ‘Flying Finn’ and had their Solus GT finished in a silver and black livery to match Häkkinen’s title-winning 1998 and ’99 liveries.

The Finn was also a test driver for McLaren’s original supercar, the F1, during his early days with the team in the 1990s, so he brings a unique perspective on the car.
“Driving the Solus GT is an experience that reminds me of my time racing with McLaren,” Häkkinen said. “A true single-seater with incredible V10 power and sound – just incredible!”
Hear the screaming V10 in action in the video below as Häkkinen blasts up the Goodwood hill.
