Ford unleashes 1000kW electric drift Mustang Mach-E will all-star motorsport line-up

The all-electric Mustang Mach-E 1400 Prototype has been revealed in a spectacular video

We already know that electric cars can be quick – but until now we didn’t know they could shred tyres with so much ferocity.

Meet the Ford Mustang Mach-E 1400 Prototype, a collaboration between the blue oval and its American drift superstar, Vaughan Gittin Jr and his RTR Vehicles company. Designed to showcase the performance potential of the new Mach-E, ensuring it lives up to the Mustang nameplate, Ford Performance and RTR built a monstrous electric vehicle.

The regular Mustang Mach-E features three electric motors for a very healthy output of 342kW of power and 830Nm of torque. Gittin Jr’s creation raises those outputs to ridiculous levels – a whopping 1073kW and 3253Nm.

To achieve that his RTR team has crammed seven electric motors underneath the Mach-E body. Three are mounted to the front differential with the remaining four on the rear axle “pancake style”, according to Ford. To power all these batteries Ford has installed an upgraded 56.8-kilowatt-hour battery that is made up of nickel manganese cobalt pouches that provide ultra-high performance.

Despite a huge window or adjustability with the electric motors, Ford Performance director, Mark Rushbrook, admitted that controlling so much grunt was still a difficult task.

“The challenge was controlling the extreme levels of power provided by the seven motors,” said Rushbrook. “Mustang Mach-E 1400 is a showcase of the art of the possible with an electric vehicle.”

The Mach-E 1400 hasn’t been designed with one purpose in mind, instead Ford has tried to make it a jack-of-all-trades with the ability to be set up as a all-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive and even front-wheel drive machine so it can hot lap tracks, drift and even do donuts.

The bodykit features a massive rear wing and a huge front splitter with large dive planes but with a focus on cooling to keep the battery and electric motors in optimum range. Stopping power is provided by the same Brembo brakes used on the Mustang GT4 race car.

To demonstrate its multiple talents Ford assembled an all-star line-up of its racing aces and their cars to run alongside the Mach-E 1400 in an action-packed video. Joey Logano in his NASCAR Mustang, Gymkhana megastar Ken Block drove his ‘Hoonicorn’, rising star Hailie Deegan was behind the wheel of a Mustang GT4 and Gittin Jr’s RTR drift teammate Chelsea Denofa is in his Mustang in the clip.

The video shows the Mach-E 1400 is indeed a multi-talented machine and with so much power it has little trouble shredding tyres alongside Block’s RTR-built ‘65 Mustang ‘Hoonicorn’.

“Getting behind the wheel of this car has completely changed my perspective on what power and torque can be,” explained Gittin Jr. “This experience is like nothing you’ve ever imagined, except for maybe a magnetic roller coaster.”

Ford says the Mustang Mach-E 1400 Prototype will make its public debut at an upcoming NASCAR race.

Unfortunately, the Mustang Mach-E road car is unlikely to be sold in Australia due to production limitations.
