The Chevrolet Corvette C8 Stingray is already a sales hit in Australia

The Chevrolet Corvette C8 Stingray is sold out, months ahead of the first cars hitting Australia.

In news that will shock no-one, Australians have snapped up the initial allocation of the all-new ‘Vette, underlining the hot demand for the iconic American sports car. Buyers are lined up for each one of the 250 Stingrays that are due to begin arriving in the fourth quarter of this year.

The Chevrolet Corvette C8 Stingray is the first built in factory right-hand drive

This is the first time the Corvette has been built in right-hand drive from the factory, so demand for the model is unsurprisingly high. It’s been a long wait for Aussie Corvette fans too, with the revolutionary new mid-engine C8 first unveiled in July 2019 and confirmed for Australian sale that same month through Holden dealers. The demise of Holden appeared to throw a spanner in the works of the ‘Vette making it to Australia, but the establishment of General Motors Specialty Vehicles (GMSV) secured its local future.

Order books for the car officially opened in June, with the 2LT Coupe priced from $144,990 (plus on-road and dealer charges) with the 3LT variant also available in both coupe and convertible forms. GMSV has also confirmed it will offer a special Carbon Edition based on the 3LT, which receives extra equipment including ‘Trident’ wheel design, a carbon fibre roof, carbon fibre interior trim elements, carbon fibre panels and lighting in the engine bay and an exclusive build plate and welcome pack.

The Chevrolet Corvette C8 is due to begin arriving in the fourth quarter of 2021 for customer deliveries

There is good news if you’ve missed out though, with GMSV telling Torquecafe that there will be a further allocation of 2022 model year Corvettes and the updated 2023 model set to follow up in due course.

GMSV hasn’t confirmed if the recently-teased Corvette Z06 will be offered locally yet, but the company has trademarked the ‘Z06’ name in Australia and New Zealand which is a positive sign for would-be Corvette buyers.
