Mercedes-AMG reveals the most expensive G-Wagen sold in Australia

Mercedes-AMG G-Wagens are hard enough to come by outside of the Gold Coast and Sydney’s northern beaches, but you’ll be even harder pressed to come across the latest special-edition model: the G63 Two-Finish Edition.

Just five examples of the AMG G63 Two-Finish Edition are coming to Australia, and with prices starting from $425,327 plus on-road costs, it’s the most expensive version of the G-Wagen ever sold locally.

At a $53,000 premium over the base AMG G63, the Two-Finish Edition commands a hefty price tag, but has been kitted out with features and colour combinations not otherwise available on the boxy SUV.

Finished in non-metallic black with Manufaktur night black magno two-tone paint, it’s a striking exterior, adopting the high-gloss finish on its greenhouse, bonnet and spare wheel cover, the rest of the G63 gets matte paintwork on its lower body and roof.

Hand-finished in Austria, Mercedes claims the masking of the dividing edge takes several hours in itself, with only one vehicle able to be painted every day.

To keep the black theme going, it’s kitted out in AMG’s Night Package II, providing darkened highlights around the grille, exhaust, running boards, spare wheel ring, door handles, and rear mirror caps.

The 22-inch forged wheels throw back to the classic AMG five-hole design of the 1990s, and are surrounded with just about the only silver on the car.

Though interior photos are limited, the exclusivity of the AMG G63 Two-Finish Edition stands out with a ‘Made to Measure’ handle positioned in front of the passenger seat, with its carbon fibre trim providing a background to its ‘1 of 5’ lettering.

Elsewhere, AMG has decked the cabin out in titanium grey pearl and black upholstery, while the instrument panel is finished in two-tone nappa leather, contrasting against the carbon-fibre trim which extends to the steering wheel.

There’s no changes to the powertrain, which continues with a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 producing 430kW and 850Nm, driving all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic transmission.

Other performance features such as AMG adaptive damping and three differential locks also carry across.
