‘Most Wanted’ car collection has nothing to do with Need for Speed
Online marketplace giant eBay is trying to keep its name in the headlines with four uniquely modified cars – built to a tenuous premise.
eBay – remember them? – is still pushing on deep into the 2020s, and ahead of this year’s SEMA show in Las Vegas, it has unveiled four cars that’ll head to auction for charity.
Dubbed the eBay Most Wanted Collection, the name of the foursome of cars gives off vibes of the famous ‘Need for Speed’ video games, and the vehicles have been modified with inspiration from “gaming culture's most recognisable rides”.
However, there’s no official connection to the ‘Need for Speed’ series, nor are the cars directly representative of any particular vehicles in video games.

Instead, the auction of the four is being used as a way of eBay promoting the parts and accessories available on its marketplace, with the quartet modified using its platform as their source.
The four cars include a 2006 Dodge Viper (The Street Icon), a 2022 Chevrolet Corvette C8 Stingray (The South Beach Supercar), a 1992 E30 BMW 325i Convertible (The Classic Getaway), and a 1975 Chevrolet Nova (The Hot Pink Hi-riser).
Details in each of the vehicles’ listings shows three of them are far from perfect, with the E30 claimed to need attention for its underbody surface rust, the Nova has a non-functioning parking brake and corrosion, and the Viper’s V10 has a minor oil leak.

Bidding for all four cars will begin from US$6 each on November 5, with the auction set to be hosted by Sung Kang (‘Han’ from Fast and Furious, and starring in his new film ‘Drifter’) and Hertrech “Hert” Eugene Jr (whose ‘Twerkstallion’ was written off at this year’s World Time Attack Challenge in Sydney).
All proceeds of the auctions will benefit Susan G. Komen, a US breast cancer foundation.
