Australian brand gets its name on another new car

Subaru Australia is leaning on its adventure-focused image with the latest edition of the Crosstrek, teaming up with local surfing giants Rip Curl.

Called simply the Subaru Crosstrek AWD Rip Curl Special Edition, the lifted hatchback is exclusive to Australia, and adds Rip Curl-branded and themed equipment to the model.

It’s the second time Rip Curl has thrown their name behind a car in Australia, after launching the BF Falcon Rip Curl ute in 2007, during the second-last year of the BF ute’s production run.

Priced from $41,490 driveaway, it’s $2500 more than the $38,990 drive-away (until 31 October 2026) price tag of the Crosstrek AWD 2.0L upon which it’s based, though there are numerous features not otherwise available, not only on other Subarus but rival models.

On the outside, the Rip Curl branding can be found on a bonnet decal and badging, while there’s a bespoke grille, bumper garnish, mud flaps, weather shields, Thule cross bars and surf pads, as well as a unique Subaru x Rip Curl cargo tray.

Inside, the seat protectors also adorn the Rip Curl brand logo, while there’s also rubber floor mats and a resin cargo step panel.

The Crosstrek is unchanged under the skin, being powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, producing up to 115kW and 196Nm, driving all four wheels through a CVT automatic.

According to Subaru Australia, the Crosstrek Rip Curl edition will be arriving at selected dealers from November 2026.
