Cult classic vehicle celebrated with limited-time watch
45 years on from its launch, the Honda Motocompo scooter is being honoured with a special edition Seiko watch.
Anniversaries of automotive icons happen regularly enough, but not all are celebrated in the same way as the Honda Motocompo.
Launched in 1981 as a foldable scooter that could fit in the back of a Honda City hatchback, the Motocompo has become a cult classic, with examples of the bike selling for almost as much as the car it’s meant to be paired with.
To celebrate the milestone, Japanese watch giant Seiko has launched a limited edition Motocompo-themed timepiece, set to be released in September and capped at just 8000 units globally.
Based on the 5 Sports Field series of watches, the Motocompo edition features the bike’s recognisable yellow colourway, eight-bit graphic writing and its branding on its strap.
On the side, the crown wheel’s ‘Turn’ writing was inspired by the Motocompo’s fuel cock, while the rear of the case features the scooter’s silhouette, as well as its serial number.
Completing the celebration is a unique box which resembles the corrugated carton which Honda used to deliver the Motocompo, complete with its accurate graphics.
Ironically, it launches at about the same time as the new Honda Super-One EV, designed to celebrate the City and other Honda kei car classics.
