Airbag concern prompts 2026 Ford Ranger recall
Nearly 14,000 Ford Rangers are subject to a voluntary safety recall due to concerns relating to the side curtain airbags.
The recall affects select 2026 and 2026.5 model year double cab Rangers and comes after an issue with the B-pillar trim and its interaction with the side airbags was identified.
A total of 13,907 Rangers are part of the recall, 8000 of which have been sold and will be prioritised in terms of repairs.
The remainder are dealer stock, with deliveries and test drives temporarily on hold.
"Ford Australia is recalling certain 2026 and 2026.5 Model Year Ranger Double Cab vehicles to replace parts of the B-pillar trim," read a statement from Ford Australia.
"In the event of a crash, it may be possible that the side curtain airbags interact with the B-pillar trim during inflation and not deploy as intended.
"If there is interaction during deployment, the B-pillar ramp may detach, increasing the risk of injury to occupants.
"Ford Australia identified the issue through routine vehicle testing and is not aware of any incidents in customer vehicles associated with this condition.
"The recall affects 13,907 vehicles in Australia, built between 26 November 2025 and 10 July 2026.
"This number includes approximately 8000 vehicles sold to customers, which will be prioritised as part of the repair process.
"The remainder are in dealer stock and are now under a temporary delivery and demonstration hold.
"Customers can continue to use their vehicles and all other airbags, including the front driver airbag, front passenger airbag, centre airbag, knee airbags and side thorax airbags, continue to operate as designed.
"Ford Australia will contact affected owners directly with further information and instructions.
"We currently anticipate that the remedy will be available from mid-September. The required repair will be completed by an authorised Ford Dealer free of charge.
"Vehicle safety and regulatory compliance are top priorities for Ford Australia. We are taking this action promptly to address the condition and support affected customers.
"Customers can determine whether their vehicle is affected by entering their Vehicle Identification Number, or VIN, on the Ford Australia Recall and Service Action page at www.ford.com.au/support/recalls/.
"Customers can also contact an authorised Ford Dealer or Ford Australia’s Customer Relationship Centre on 13 36 73."
