Dario Franchitti’s ‘Indy Commission’ Porsche 911 by Singer Vehicle Design

Dario Franchitti isn’t just an acclaimed racing driver, he’s also a genuine petrolhead with an enviable car collection. And it just got more enviable with his latest acquisition – his own custom Porsche 911 by Singer Vehicle Design.

This one-of-a-kind Porsche creation has been built to the three-time Indianapolis 500 winner’s personal specification. Each Singer is typically known by the city its owner lives in, but the Scot decided to name his after the town that helped define his career, which is why his car is known as the ‘Indy Commission’.

There’s another nod to his illustrious racing career, with the particular shade of paint known as ‘Dixon Bronze’ in honour of his long-time Chip Ganassi Racing teammate, Scott Dixon.

For those unfamiliar, Singer Vehicle Design creates custom Porsche 911 vehicles that take elements from several models across the air-cooled era of the car and then add modern touches like carbon fibre bodywork. The cost of these Singer versions of the 911 is often much higher than a brand-new Porsche 911, reportedly running to more than $1 million.

Dario’s brother Marino has been involved in the development and testing of several Singer vehicles and specific parts, such as the latest version of its 4.0-litre flat-six.

In his tweet revealing the car Franchitti said he had waited “3 Chirstmases” for the car but praised the work of Singer saying: “The team at Singer were mega to work with. To say I’m delighted is an understatement.”

The Indy Commission will join his amazing garage that reportedly already houses a Ferrari F40 he has owned for more than 20 years, a custom 1973 Porsche 911 T, a Porsche 911 R and a Porsche Carrera GT.

Franchitti also has a Honda NSX because, thanks to his ties to Honda through his Indycar days with Ganassi, he was enlisted to help its development.

He is now performing a similar role for Gordon Murray Automotive, putting its new T.50 and T.33 models through testing to ensure that they meet the standard of any discerning car collector – and who else could be more qualified for the role than Franchitti.
