KW launches DDC coilovers for Tesla Model 3 and Model Y
Tesla Model 3 Performance and Model Y Performance owners can now lower their EV while retaining factory adaptive damping thanks to KW Suspension's new DDC coilover kit.
KW Suspension has expanded its electric vehicle range with the launch of a new DDC plug-and-play coilover suspension kit for the latest Tesla Model 3 Performance and Model Y Performance.
Designed specifically for facelifted models equipped with factory adaptive dampers, the new suspension package allows owners to lower their vehicle while retaining full functionality of Tesla's standard semi-active suspension control system.
The German suspension manufacturer says the DDC plug-and-play system integrates directly with the vehicle's existing electronics, eliminating the need for software coding, control module modifications or additional wiring.
The new coilover kit replaces the factory dampers with KW's adaptive DDC units, which continue to communicate with Tesla's onboard suspension management system. Damper settings are automatically adjusted in real time based on the selected driving mode and operating conditions.
According to KW, drivers can retain the varying comfort and performance characteristics offered by Tesla's factory suspension modes while benefiting from a lower ride height and revised chassis setup.
The suspension can be adjusted between 25mm and 50mm lower than standard on both front and rear axles, depending on the model and local approval requirements.
KW has been active in the EV performance market for several years and was among the first aftermarket suspension manufacturers to develop a certified coilover package for the Tesla Model 3. The company now offers suspension upgrades for a growing range of electric vehicles, including the BMW i4, BYD Seal, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, Kia EV6 GT and Volkswagen ID.7.
KW Product Manager Sascha Daucher said customer feedback from existing Tesla applications had been positive, with some owners reporting efficiency gains following suspension upgrades.
The company pointed to testing conducted by German EV rental specialist Nextmove, which found a reported seven per cent increase in driving range after fitting a KW coilover suspension package to a Tesla Model 3.
The new KW DDC plug-and-play coilover suspension is available now for facelift Tesla Model 3 Performance and Tesla Model Y Performance all-wheel-drive models.
