Mercedes-AMG A45 Final Edition farewells the hottest hatch
The 310kW Mercedes-AMG A45 is being put out to pasture, with the most powerful of the hot hatches sent off with an exclusive Final Edition.
Mercedes-AMG disrupted the hot hatch community when it first launched the A45 AMG in 2013, taking on the likes of the Volkswagen Golf R and Audi RS3 with a more powerful, all-wheel drive weapon.
For the past 13 years, the A45 AMG has held its spot as one of the – if not the absolute – most powerful offerings in the market, with its 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine able to squeeze out a huge 310kW and 500Nm.
But all good things must come to an end, and that is nearly here for the A45 AMG, which is set to be farewelled with a new ‘Final Edition’.
Officially called the Mercedes-AMG A45 S 4MATIC+ Final Edition, it has launched for Europe and the UK, but the brand’s Australian division says there are no plans to bring it here.
It continues to be powered by the turbocharged four-cylinder ‘M139’ engine which AMG claims is the most powerful of its kind, with no additional outputs.
Visually it stands out thanks to its Manufaktur Mountain Grey Magno paintwork and large “45 S” lettering in yellow and black with a white outline on its front doors, while the mirrors also feature an AMG-specific black diamond pattern with a yellow outline.
There are more yellow accents around the exterior, carrying across to the wheel centre caps for the 19-inch forged rims, fitted in front of ‘high-performance’ brakes, featuring gloss black calipers with white AMG lettering.
Giving the A45 AMG Final Edition even more presence is its Aerodynamics Package, consisting of a larger front splitter and canards, a diffuser and a roof spoiler, all finished in high-gloss black.
Inside, the Final Edition gets Artico man-made leather and black Microcut microfiber upholstery, with yellow contrast stitching on the seats and door panels. The front head restraints also get an embroidered ‘45 S’ emblem.
It also has a yellow-stitched steering wheel, unique floor mats and sill panels, while there’s a ‘45 S Final Edition’ plaque on the centre console.
Mercedes-AMG is yet to announce what will replace the A45 AMG, though given the related CLA45 has gone electric, it’s likely this hot hatch may be one of the brand’s last with petrol power.
