Music icon’s rare V16 supercar for sale
This was the only Cizeta-Moroder V16T ever built, and now it is heading to auction.
If there’s anything more 1980s than the Cizeta-Moroder V16T, I don’t think we want to know about it.
Built in Italy out of a partnership between automotive engineer Claudio Zampolli and legendary music producer Giorgio Moroder, the V16T encapsulated the 1980s – both the good and the bad.
Set to be auctioned by RM Sotheby’s next month, this 1988 Cizeta-Moroder V16T is chassis #001, the first prototype which was built, and the only to include Moroder’s name on it.

The story goes that Moroder had a Lamborghini Countach and had it serviced by Zampolli, who had previously worked for Lamborghini, but wanted to build his own supercar.
By starting a joint venture together, the pair employed Countach designer Marcello Gandini to pen the V16T, which was based in part on the Lamborghini P132 prototype, a car that also inspired the Diablo.
With the proportions of a supercar and a V16 engine behind the driver – essentially two Lamborghini Urraco V8s mated together – the V16T debuted in late 1988 after numerous delays.
Those delays led Moroder to back out of the project, with the remaining nine cars of the production run badged simply as the Cizeta V16T.

Chassis #001 was retained by Moroder himself who parked it up and had it restored in 2018 by Canepa in California, where it was given a full restoration and improved by the Porsche specialists.
Moroder only sold it in 2022 at another RM Sotheby’s auction, where it went for the hammer price of US$1,363,500 (A$1,966,795), which included an NFT comprised of a four-track EP made by the producer for the car, and a 3D rendering.
These items will again be sold with the V16T when it is sold next month, with the auction house estimating it could go for between US$1.4 million (A$2.02 million) to US$1.8 million (A$2.60 million).
