New brand wants you to drive its hypercar like a bike

It’s a concept sometimes applied to video games but never enacted in real life: a new Dutch brand thinks its hypercar could be best ‘driven’ how you sit on a superbike.

Sanrivatti's 'The Apex Position' concept

Since the invention of the car, a few things have remained largely unchanged: four wheels being controlled by a driver who sits in a chair-like position. But what if this approach underwent an overhaul?

That’s what Dutch startup Sanrivatti wants to do, revealing striking sketches for a new hypercar which will be based around a relatively rare concept.

Called The Apex Position, the driver of the car is positioned akin to the rider of a superbike, with their feet behind them and arms stretched out to the controls in front, claimed to provide a better connection to the vehicle.

“On a high-performance motorcycle, rider and machine move as one,” said Sanrivatti CEO Santiago Sánchez.

“The connection is immediate, physical and instinctive. Every movement of the body directly influences the experience; every change in balance, posture and perception becomes part of the interaction.

“By contrast, even the world’s most capable performance cars frequently separate driver and machine through layers of architecture, packaging, systems technologies and convention.”

Of course, Sanrivatti hasn’t revealed any details about its planned hypercar outside of the cabin-centric design sketches, though its team includes former executives and staff from McLaren, Lotus, Bentley, Harley-Davidson and Singer.

It’s not the first time such a driving layout has been proposed.

The NIKE One Concept from Gran Turismo 4 had the driver in a similar position, which was later followed by the McLaren Ultimate Vision Gran Turismo. Neither vehicles have been made as production cars.
