Rare, low-kilometre Holden Commodore VS up for sale
Possibly the closest to showroom condition VS Holden Commodore has appeared in the classifieds, with a near-$30,000 price tag reflecting its rarity.
What may be one of the cleanest examples of Holden’s second-generation Commodore series is up for sale, with a VS Berlina commanding a premium for its hard-to-find condition.
Listed by The Motor Gallery in Victoria, this Holden Commodore Berlina is a VS II example, and has completed just 18,145km since leaving the factory in Elizabeth, South Australia in June 1997.
In total, Holden built 277,774 examples of the VS from 1995 to 1997, marking the final update to the second-generation Commodore platform since it was introduced as the VN in 1988.

The VS was replaced by the VT, a totally different generation of Commodore which introduced a new era of design, leaving the VS as the last hangover of the 1980s platform it was based on.
According to the listing, this Berlina has been owned since new by a former Holden executive, and has not been modified outside of its period-correct weather shields and front nudge bar.
Powered by a Buick-based 3.8-litre ‘Ecotec’ V6 engine, the VS produced 147kW and 304Nm, though the Berlina was also available with Holden’s more potent 5.0-litre V8 engine, however these examples are even harder to come by.

Finished in Silver Ice MkII, this Berlina was priced from $39,020 in 1997, equivalent to more than $85,000 today.
Currently listed at $29,990, it’s undoubtedly one of the most expensive unmodified and non-HSV Commodores of its time, though it presents as a time capsule unlikely to be replicated again.
