McMurtry Spéirling Pure

McMurtry is gearing up to reveal the Spéirling Pure at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the site of the fan-assisted electric hypercar’s first foray onto the world stage.

The covers came off the first Spéirling prototype at the Goodwood FOS in 2021, and it returned in 2022 to set a record time up the event’s famed hillclimb, before also becoming the fastest car around the Top Gear test track.

Five years on from its initial unveiling, McMurtry says that the production-ready Spéirling Pure will debut next week, sticking to its previous claims of only producing 100 examples.

According to the niche carmaker, the Spéirling Pure has 95 per cent new parts compared to the prototypes, though it won’t be road legal, instead becoming one of the ultimate track toys.

Powered by two electric motors on the rear axle, prototype versions produce up to 745kW in a car which weighs less than 1000kg, and is aided by its huge under-floor fans.

McMurtry has claimed the fans can generate up to 2000kg of downforce, or double its own weight. This led to it becoming the first vehicle to drive upside down, when it was rotated on a platform and driven a short distance forwards and backwards.
