Suzuki Swift Sport returns… with a catch
Suzuki Sport Black Aero

Production of the Suzuki Swift Sport ended almost 18 months ago, and yet we’re no closer to seeing a replacement for the pint-sized warm hatch – unless you live in Japan.

Released through Suzuki’s Select Plus accessories division, the Swift Sport has returned in the form of an official bodykit package, made by Japanese firm AWIN but not technically sold as genuine Suzuki parts.

Technically called the Suzuki Sport Black Aero package, the kit comprises a number of AWIN parts, such as a front splitter (with a Suzuki Sport badge), side skirts and an added rear valance.

Other additions include a black grille surround plus four black aluminium wheels, while buyers can also opt for carbon-fibre look mirror caps and a unique fuel door cover.

All up, the kit costs 312,972 Yen ($2800), and can be added to any of the Swift’s grades in Japan.

It doesn’t add any extra performance to the Swift, which is powered by a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder engine, available with or without a 12-volt mild-hybrid system, the latter of which makes 61kW of power and 112Nm of torque in Australia.

By comparison, the previous true Swift Sport’s turbocharged 1.4-litre four-cylinder engine made 103kW and 230Nm, which combined with its six-speed manual transmission and diminutive sub-1000kg kerb weight made it a popular choice among driving enthusiasts.
