GASGAS Racing Team’s Aaron Tanti further showcased his potential at the annual King of Capricorn, taking three victories and ultimately third overall at the 2021 event in Rockhampton, Queensland.
Tanti electrified Superpole, setting the fastest lap time onboard his MC 450F to get first gate pick heading into the unique King of Capricorn format.
The first four races saw Tanti land consistently on the podium, with a second, third, first and third allowing him make the top 17 elimination cut-off with ease heading into race five.
Race five, which was the first of four three-lap elimination races, proved difficult for Tanti with an early heavy crash leaving him to limp home to 13th in a considerable amount of pain.
Showing true grit and determination, Tanti was able to rebound to score two more victories in the remaining four races, where a fourth and eighth in the other outings saw him finish on 176 points overall.
Also GASGAS-mounted, Mike Sleeter performed strongly on double-duty across two categories, winning all four motos in the Veterans 40+ division riding his MC 450F, as well as finishing P7 aboard a MC 125 in the Senior Two-Stroke class.
In the junior ranks, Nate Hargreaves stormed to second overall in the 50cc DIV 2 (7-U9 Yrs) class with three third-place finishes and a second riding his MC 50.
Bodie Court claimed second overall on his MC 65 in the 65cc (10-U12 Yrs) category, scoring a win in the second race after a third in the first outing, followed up by a pair of seconds in races three and four.
Aaron Tanti: ”It was a pretty good weekend for me! I started off pretty strong getting the Superpole and my starts were definitely on point. Everything was all going well until the fifth race – the start of the three lap elimination races. I had quite a big crash and ended up getting up and rolling around to 13th, so I had to ride out the rest of the day in some pain after that one. I ended up managing to still get third overall with a few wins under my belt and I was pretty happy with how everything went. The bike was handling well, it was definitely going well out there as I’m pretty sure I hole-shotted most of the races, which was pretty cool. I was just stoked with the event as well, the organisers did a good job and I definitely look forward to doing it every year. It was a good weekend while the nationals aren’t happening to get some good racing in against some of the fast boys, some of the 250 boys as well and there was a lot of Queensland talent up there this weekend.”
