The Fast and the Furious celebrates 25 years with cinema release
A quarter of a century on from its debut, The Fast and the Furious is coming back to cinemas, for an extremely limited time.
Car culture is always evolving, but fans of the early 2000s tuner movement can relive the glory days with the upcoming cinematic re-release of The Fast and the Furious.
First released in 2001, The Fast and the Furious was a film which encapsulated the rise in car modifications at the time, highlighted by big sound systems, intricate liveries, and – of course – overnight parts from Japan.
Now, 25 years on, it’s coming back to the silver screen with a limited re-release in Australia, arriving on August 27, and only showing until August 28.
Ground-breaking at the time, the film follows an undercover police officer, Brian O’Conner (portrayed by Paul Walker) who infiltrates the street racing community, befriending the crew of Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel).
Since its release, the Fast and Furious franchise has become one of the most recognisable film series in the world, though it underwent a major change following the death of Walker in a car crash in December 2013.
The most recent release, Fast X, debuted in 2023, while the final installment of the series, Fast Forever, is due to release in March 2028.
