Toyota GR teases another hot model… but what?

Toyota’s performance Gazoo Racing arm has left fans on a cliffhanger about its next release.

The Toyota Gazoo Racing division continues on its performance pathway, and looks set to soon add another hot model to its ranks.

With the GR Corolla, GR Yaris and GR86 being its core sellers, and the GR Supra soon exiting production, it’s been a while since Toyota announced a new performance model, but a new teaser suggests one isn’t far away.

In Toyota’s ‘GRIP’ anime series, a recent episode ended with a list of ‘Gazoo Racing Inventory’ including the GR Supra, the GR86 and GR Corolla, before the two letters ‘GR’ are typed as the screen quickly turns black.

Last year, another GRIP episode included a whiteboard with hints at a new-generation Celica and MR2, both of which have been gathering momentum in recent reports from Japan about making it to production.

Toyota itself has even confirmed it’s working on a new turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine for mid-engine applications, using the GR Yaris as a testbed.

Despite executives all but confirming the Celica and MR2 will be making a comeback, we don’t yet have a date for the revival of the two models, suggesting the latest GRIP anime teaser might be hinting at a more immediate release.

Most likely to be the vehicle alluded to in the video is the new flagship to Toyota’s global lineup, understood to be the successor to the V10-powered Lexus LFA.

Toyota sets reveal date for twin-turbo V8 Lexus LFA successor

Understood to be called the GR Super Sports in Toyota guise and the LFR if it’s badged as a Lexus, it will be powered by a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 engine, and used as the basis for a GT3 racing car.

Previous reports have said the Toyota GR Super Sport would make its debut towards the end of this year and roll out into showrooms in early 2026, coinciding with when the GT3 racing version takes to the track.

Toyota has previously confirmed the new flagship will launch on December 5, alongside images of the LFA and the Toyota 2000GT, Japan’s first true sports car capable of taking on Europe’s finest.
