Lamborghini knows its future is electrified but it has one more model to farewell its iconic V12 engine – the Aventador LP780-4 Ultimae.
Combining elements of both the Aventador S and hardcore SVJ into one model, the Ultimae is, according to the Italian brand, the purest of all Aventador. It’s powered by the 6.5-litre naturally-aspirated V12 that is now tuned to make 580kW of power and 720Nm of torque, out-muscling the 566kW SVJ.

The engine is housed with a restyled body – which will be available as both a coupe and roadster – that retains the now famous silhouette of the Aventador, without the big wings of the SVJ, in an attempt to hark back to the same shapes as the original Countach, Diablo and Murcielago that came before it.
Lamborghini CEO, Stephan Winkelmann, believes this is a fitting way to send-off the Avenatdor and the V12 engine, with its replacement due to use a hybrid powertrain similar to what we’ve already seen in the limited edition Sian.
“The Aventador LP 780-4 denotes the final, purest, timeless naturally-aspirated production V12 Lamborghini,” Winkelmann said. “It delivers the essential 12-cylinder experience in terms of inimitable design, engineering solutions and the most emotive driving experience, and is the definitive Aventador concluding an extraordinary era. It is the last of its kind: it delivers the maximum power and conclusive performance expected from Lamborghini’s current V12 engine, combined with our inimitable flagship’s design DNA. The Aventador was destined to become a classic from launch, and the Aventador LP 780-4 is the most beautiful expression of timeless design and technical solutions in a final edition: Ultimae.”
As the name implies, the LMP780-4 makes 780hp and features all-wheel drive. That’s enough to run 0-100km/h in 2.8 seconds and hit a top speed of 355km/h – matching the performance of the Aventador SVJ.
A new front bumper design not only gives the Ultimae a unique look but also helps increase its front downforce. The handling package also includes rear-wheel steering and a new stability control calibration for “fast, precise traction control and vehicle dynamics” to ensure it lives up to the Aventador’s reputation for an engaging drive. At the rear there’s an adjustable rear wing and a new rear bumper that’s inspired by the SVJ.
Lamborghini is building just 600 examples of the Aventador Ultimae, 350 coupe and 250 roadsters, all of which will no doubt be quickly snapped up by lovers of powerful, screaming V12 engines.
The Aventador LP580-4 Ultimae will make its public debut at this weekend’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.
