HSV GTSR W1 Maloo on-track for record price

This 2018 HSV GTSR W1 Maloo could sell for more than $1m

Bidding for an extremely rare HSV has reached $715,000 days before it’s due to go under the hammer at this weekend’s Lloyds Auction, putting it on course to break the record for such a car.

HSV only built four examples of the W1 Maloos, equipped with the 474kW ‘LS9’ supercharged 6.2-litre V8, and this one is uniquely finished in the iconic ‘Yellah’ yellow colour. Not only that, but it has just 19km on the odometer, ensuring it’s in ideal collecting condition.

Back in January Lloyds sold one of the other four W1 Maloos for $1,050,000, making it the most expensive Australian-made production at the time. While that price has since been beaten, this latest HSV special creation is looking likely to exceed that based on the price reached already and time remaining before the hammer drops.

The one-off 2004 HSV GTS-R Coupe concept is a unique piece of Australian performance car history

As we’ve previously reported, the W1 Maloo is one of a trio of ‘Yellah’ HSV GTSR models being sold from a private collection. The other two are a 2018 GTSR W1 sedan and an original 1996 GTSR.
These two are also set to fetch big bucks, with bidding for the GTSR W1 already at $475,000 and the ‘96 version currently attracting a high bid of $380,000.

A fourth rare HSV is also up for sale at this weekend’s auction, the one-of-a-kind GTS-R Coupe concept. This racing-inspired Monaro-based creation was built using the combined expertise of HSV and the Holden Racing Team (when it was run by Walkinshaw Racing) and features a raft of track-ready upgrades.

Bidding for this piece of Australian performance car history has attracted a high bid of $265,000 with five days left before final sale, but expect it to sell for much more than that given its unique nature.
