Aston Martin’s latest V12 is a war-ready SUV… that isn’t real

Staying true to its word of keeping V12s alive, Aston Martin’s latest wild design has broken cover, though you won’t be able to buy it in a showroom.

Aston Martin Dreadnought

Aston Martin is looking to shed its image of an older, gentler clientele, and what better way to do so than to launch a battle-prepared SUV?

The Aston Martin Dreadnought has been revealed as its latest creation, with the jacked-up, two-door SUV taking hints from the Valiant, as well as military machines.

Created for the upcoming ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4’ video game, the Dreadnought is an exercise in thinking outside the box for the brand, whose design team were let loose without the constraints of regulations which would otherwise have held back its ambitions.

Powered by a V12 engine, it features an all-wheel drive system, perfect for navigating tough terrain, a key target of the vehicle, thanks to its huge knobbly tyres, massive ground clearance and rugged exterior.

Claimed to deliver “supercar levels of performance”, its carbon fibre exterior armour features a herringbone weave, an otherwise luxurious addition to the battle-prepared SUV.

This carries on inside too, where there’s (digital) Oxford Tan leather on the dashboard and door panels, as well as a metallic gold gear selector.

“The team have hugely enjoyed the not inconsiderable challenge of redefining what an Aston Martin can be when the only limit is imagination,” said Aston Martin’s chief creative officer, Marek Reichman.

“To create the ultimate exotic off-road machine, I had to imagine Dreadnought not only as a digital asset, but as a vehicle living in the real world – navigating the streets of New York, powering through the monsoon-soaked roads of Mumbai, and performing with complete authenticity in every environment.

“That vision allowed us to create something that feels genuinely real, even within the immersive world of the game.

“To me, Dreadnought is unmistakably an Aston Martin – amplified without restraint.”

The Dreadnought will appear in full-size model form at the Fanatics Fest in New York, before going digital in the video game on October 23.

Aston Martin won’t kill the V12
As one of the last few carmakers continuing on with V12 power, Aston Martin has committed to ensuring future models still offer 12 cylinders.
