Nissan GT-R driver ‘lost traction’ while in street race
A late-night street race between an Audi RS6 and Nissan GT-R could have ended poorly, after police witnessed the all-wheel drive coupe lose traction.
Sydney’s street racing scene is still alive, with New South Wales Highway Patrol officers stopping an Audi RS6 and Nissan GT-R driver who were caught speeding on the Hume Highway.
Just after midnight on August 19, Auburn Highway Patrol officers were on the Hume Highway in Greenacre when they allegedly “observed a black Mercedes Benz, black Audi RS6 and a white Nissan R35 GT-R travelling in a westerly direction”.
The three cars stopped side-by-side, one beeped its horn three times and initiated a street race.
According to the police, the Nissan GT-R was “observed to lose traction for a short time”, while the Audi RS6 was detected at 141km/h in a 70km/h zone.
Both the Audi and Nissan were stopped and their drivers spoken to in relation to the incident. There has been no word on what happened to the Mercedes-Benz.
The GT-R driver was issued with a Field Court Attendance Notice for the offences of organising/promoting a race between vehicles (first offence) and exceeding the speed limit by more than 30km/h.
Meanwhile, the Audi’s driver was issued with a Field Court Attendance Notice for the offences of organising/promoting a race between vehicles (second offence) and exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h.
Both drivers will appear before Burwood Local Court later in the year.
