Mopar, best known now for being the North American performance division of Dodge, Ram and Jeep, turns 90 next year, with Dodge set to celebrate the feat with a trio of hotter looking Chargers.

Announced in the lead up to this weekend’s Mopar NHRA Las Vegas Nationals and next month’s SEMA show, the Mopar ’27 Dodge Charger package has launched for the coupe versions of the Charger R/T and Scat Pack Plus.

Limited to 270 cars, the Mopar package will be split across 90 examples each of Chargers finished in Bludicrous, Diamond Black and White Knuckle paint colours, which celebrate the brand’s history.

Based on the two-door Charger Sixpack, the Mopar ‘27 package adds a number of exterior changes, including a Direct Connection carbon-fibre splitter, bonnet with scoop and rear spoiler.

Standard too are unique body and bonnet graphics honouring the Mopar connection.

Inside, changes are limited to a unique Mopar ‘27 interior badge on the dashboard, while under the bonnet there’s both  Mopar ’27/Mopar 90th anniversary plaque mounted on the radiator closeout panel, as well as a Direct Connection cold-air intake system.

The latter upgrade hasn’t resulted in increased outputs from the Charger’s twin-turbo 3.0-litre ‘Sixpack’’ straight-six engine, which continues to make 313kW and 635Nm in the R/T, and 410kW and 720Nm in the Scat Pack.

Unlike most traditional muscle cars, the Charger Sixpack is all-wheel drive, and features an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Twin-turbo muscle car gets a makeover
Mopar has used its decade of knowledge to turn the six-cylinder Dodge Charger into a Euro-fighting coupe.

The Mopar ‘27 package also isn’t as extensive as what was previewed by the ‘Moparized Dodge Sixpack Charger’ concept at SEMA last year.

That car, finished in Stryker Purple, scored the same carbon-fibre splitter, bonnet and rear lip spoiler, however it also gained vented front wheel-arches, plus 25mm lower suspension and 21-inch wheels.

For more power, Charger fans will have to wait for the Super Bee, which has 447kW from the same twin-turbo six, as well as larger and reinforced half-shafts, plus bigger brakes and wide wheels.
